Innodisk Solution Delivers Uncrackable SSD Encryption and Easy Management
Innodisk’s Combination of Self-Encrypting Drives and the New iOpal™ Software Promises User-Friendly Management and Easy Login Based on TCG Opal 2.0
Jul 17, 2018
Taipei – July 17, 2018 – Innodisk’s self-encrypting drives (SED) offers an industrial-grade solution to your data protection demands. By employing a hardware-based encryption mechanism, located in the controller, the data is next to uncrackable and will have zero impact on CPU loading. To simplify the process of implementing these devices, Innodisk has created iOpal™, an intuitive software for easy SED management.
Keeping your data secure and managing user access can be a daunting task. Many opt for consumer-based solutions such as software encryption to protect their sensitive data, but what many do not realize is that these solutions also have some severe weaknesses. Software encryption is much more susceptible to cracking and other attempts to reach your data, not to mention that the encryption process will also increase CPU loading.
Innodisk’s SEDs uses 256-bit AES encryption, which is the standard adopted by the US government. An internal AES-engine encrypts all data going into the device, meaning that data read directly from the NAND flash will be completely scrambled and unintelligible.
However, implementing and managing your SED can be challenging without the right tools. TCG Opal 2.0 is set of specifications for SED management aimed at handling this challenge. It clearly defines how to create different ranges for different users – allowing for a system where data is shared on a strictly need-to-know basis.
iOpal™ molds the detailed specifications of TCG Opal 2.0 into a simple and user-friendly application. It comprises several key features such as data storage management, different user authorizations, and pre-boot authentication. iOpal™ and Innodisk’s SEDs are perfect for mission-critical and heavy-loading environments, such as aerospace and server applications. The software is compatible with select form factors in the 3MG2-P, 3SE2-P, and 3MR2-P SSD series. For more details, please check Innodisk website: https://www.innodisk.com/en/technology/Security
